How to get to Hillside

By car ferry :Wightlink offer a car ferry service from Portsmouth - Fishbourne and Lymington - Yarmouth and Red Funnel offer car ferry from Southampton - East Cowes. We are happy to make ferry reservations on your behalf and can provide competitive prices.

Arriving with the ferry in Fishbourne from Portsmouth - just follow the traffic off the ferry to the first traffic lights where you turn left and follow the A3054 eastwards towards Ryde. When you see the sign for Sandown follow the A3055 road all the way via Sandown and Shanklin to Ventnor & Bonchurch where you turn right onto the B3327.  After a few hundred meters you will find Hillside on your right just above the tennis courts going up Mitchell Avenue. The journey is approximately 16 miles and takes about 28 minutes.

The Yarmouth ferry comes straight to the A3054 which you follow east towards Newport. At the roundabout go via the A3020 south through Godshill and turn right along the B3327 towards Ventnor. Hillside is on your left side coming down Mitchell Avenue.  The journey is approximately 21 miles and takes about 34 minutes.

Coming via East Cowes head for the A3021 going south. At the  roundabout turn right towards Newport on the A3054.  When you reach Newport continue going south on the A3020 through Godshill. A few miles outside Godshill turn right along the  B3327 towards Ventnor.  Hillside is on your left side coming down Mitchell Avenue.  The journey is approximately 16 miles and takes about 36 minutes.


On foot from Portsmouth

Hovercraft from Southsea to Ryde.  When arriving at the Portsmouth Harbour station walk stragiht out and follow the signs to Isle of Wight ferries and board the hovertravel from Portsmouth Southsea to Ryde. www.hovertravel.co.uk Telephone:02392 81 1000. The journey takes around 12 minutes. Just outside the the hover terminal in Ryde you will find train, taxi and busses.

Fastcat from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier - the Wightlink fastcat catamaran from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde taking about 18 minutes. Arriving at Ryde Pier you can either take a taxi or the train to Ryde or all the way to Shanklin.

At Ryde bus station you can take bus 3 which will go straight to Hillside. It will take about 40 minutes and you should ask for the bus to stop just after Hillside so you walk downhill.

Alternatively you can take a taxi straight from the ferry which will cost you in the region of £25 and take about 26 minutes.

On foot from Southampton - The Red jet from Southampton to West Cowes takes 24 minutes. Upon arrival take the no. 1 bus to Newport and change to Bus 3 which will take you straight to Ventnor. Alternatively you can take a taxi directly to Ventnor which will take you approximately 30 minutes and £30.

Island Trains  - Island Line Trains - 0845 6000 650. Trains run from Ryde Pierhead to Shanklin via Branding, Sandown &Lake. From Shanklin you can take a local taxi to Ventnor.  www.island-line.co.uk

Buses on the Island - Southern Vectis offer a reliable bus service.  They operate every 20 minutes and drive you around the whole island. You can buy weekly tickets or daily tickets which give you greater flexibility during your stay. Please check the bus route coming to Hillside on www.islandbuses.co.uk 

By air - arriving on the Isle of Wight you can either land in Sandown Airport - 01983 405125 or the slightly bigger and tarmacked Bembridge Airport - 01983 873331 - www.eghj.com.  Good airports with attractive landing fees. From there you can easily get one of our reccomended taxis. Alternative have a "fly over" Hillside and we will send a car for your pick up.

If arriving by helicopter you can obviously use the above facilities or use the Heliport at our local golf club www.ventnorgolfclub.co.uk  just a short distance from Hillside.
